Answers to popular car rental questions
What is an International Driving Permit and do I need one?
Slightly larger than a passport, the International Driving Permit (IDP), sometimes referred to as an International Driving License (IDL), is basically a multi-language translation of your personal driver’s license. Whether or not you’ll be required to have and hold an IDP during your trip, however, varies quite a bit between countries. In any case, in order for it to be valid, your IDP must always be accompanied by your own driver’s license.
To avoid any inconveniences, contact us at booking@rwandacars.com and find out if the country you are traveling to requires an International Driver’s Permit. We’re always happy to help.
Which documents will be required of me when picking up my vehicle?
- A valid driver’s license held for at least 2 years.
- A valid passport.
- Must be to sign a contract.
Will I have to pay for anything when I arrive?
All car hire bookings made on Rwandacars.com include mandatory insurances local taxes and fees, basic breakdown assistance, and VAT.
Other websites offering car hire may not include mandatory fees such as Airport Fees (destinations with airport fees include Israel, Cyprus, and Guadeloupe) – but rest assured that Rwandacars.com negotiates with its suppliers to include these in the prepaid rates.
Some East African Countries have made it a legal requirement to include certain Equipment in the rates in the total price you see.
Some customers may want to buy additional cover to reduce or remove the excess. If you are dropping off the vehicle in a different location to where you picked up, then you may be charged a one-way fee – if the booking was correctly made, and if a fee is applicable, this will be highlighted during the booking and also upon your confirmation. You may also like to pay for extra items such as an additional driver, GPS, child seats, etc.
